Ilex Berry Poppins

A Proven Winners ColorChoice Flowering Shrubs variety, Ilex Berry Poppins.

Add bold, vibrant color to your fall and winter landscape with Ilex Berry Poppins, a compact winterberry holly with bursts of bright red berries. This Proven Winners ColorChoice shrub is exceptional for cold-season interest and a favorite of birds and floral designers. Just 4 feet tall and wide, this native selection fits beautifully in small spaces, borders, or naturalized garden beds. It thrives in damp or even wet soil, offering low-maintenance beauty and big seasonal impact where other plants might struggle.

Berry Poppins is a deciduous female holly and requires a nearby male pollinator like Mr. Poppins Winterberry Holly for best berry production. Though its tiny white flowers in spring are modest, they are plentiful and lead to an explosion of glossy red berries that hold through winter. These berries provide critical food for birds and lend a festive, cheerful look to garden beds and cut arrangements. With each hard pruning in late winter, Berry Poppins grows back stronger, denser, and even more ornamental.

This resilient shrub is perfect for woodland gardens, foundation plantings, driveway borders, or rain gardens. It performs best in full sun to partial shade and handles clay, loam, or poorly drained soils with ease. For gardeners looking to bring color, texture, and wildlife value into the garden year-round, Ilex Berry Poppins is an ideal choice. Note: Ilex berries may be toxic to pets. Plant with care in pet-accessible spaces.
